Laser Hair Removal

How does the LightSheer™ diode laser work?

A laser produces a beam of highly concentrated light. Different types of lasers produce different colors of light. The light emitted by the LightSheer™ diode laser is absorbed by the pigment (melanin) located in hair follicles (melanin pigments give hair its color) and hair shaft. The laser pulses for a fraction of a second, just long enough to vaporize the pigment - disabling several hair follicles at a time to eliminate or significantly impede the hair's regrowth - but not long enough to damage the surrounding skin. The LightSheer™ diode laser's special contact-cooling handpiece further protects the epidermis (upper layer of skin). This patented method of epidermal preservation allows delivery of more laser energy deeper into the hair follicle. Additionally, the LightSheer™ diode laser is able to treat a broader range of skin types than most other hair-removal lasers. It is delicate enough for a woman's fine, sensitive skin and robust enough for a man's beard, back, or arms.

How many treatments are required?

Six to eight treatments

Duration between treatments?

Between five and ten weeks. (confirm with therapist for best results)

Why do I need multiple treatments on the same area?

You will need at least three laser hair removal treatments. Some people need more than seven treatments to get optimal results. Hormonal variations as well as genetics from person to person affect the level of hair re-growth. Another factor to consider is that laser (as well as electrolysis) is only effective on hairs in the active hair growth phase (the anagen phase). Most of our hair is in the growth phase at any given time, and the laser will either disable or permanently destroy those hairs. Many of the hairs which were disabled in that treatment will hopefully be destroyed in the next laser session along with any hairs which have recently entered the active growth stage. This process needs to continue until the majority of the hairs are permanently gone. A 10-30% permanent reduction of hair per treatment is achieved.

Which area will I see the best results?

Underarm and Bikini Line, the main reason for this is that most of the hair in these areas are in the active growth phase so one would normally see a greater than normal reduction of hair in these areas.

Side effects

The side effects of laser and IPL are minimal. There is always a chance of slight crusting but these fall away without any skin discolorations.
